POST #8 – LECTURE - RENAISSANCE - REALISM

When it comes to the Renaissance, was the dominant art style in Europe, and mostly Italy, in the 14th, 15th, and in 16th centuries with many dominant artists such as Da Vinci and Michelangelo. A new interest in art, science, and literature is being formed, and classical antiquity, humanist philosophy, and human worth are things a lot of people are interested in now that the world has been changing. It was also the beginning of new technologies, such as the printing press, which was also a new system of astronomy. Later on, Byzantine art was introduced, which was a more symbolistic style, and the paintings were regularly large. So far, there were three techniques in the Renaissance: fresco, tempera, and oils. Unlike the Byzantine artists, Renaissance artists focused on representing the world realistically. Popes and people of less significance were painted in actual size. The Medici family played an important role when it came to art as well. For example, Giovanni di Bicci de Medic...

POST #9 – READING GRQ DISCUSSION – RENAISSANCE AND MODERN ART

Discussion Q After looking at the painting again and giving more time to look at some of the items in the background, I feel like it should be classified as a marriage. This is because if it were to be in a funeral, the two would have a very different style of dress or clothes and it would set in a different place, because in the painting, it looks like they are at their house with elegant decor and elegant clothing. Another reason on why this can't be classified as a funeral is because in the 13th century, mostly in Europe, if you had oranges in the windows or on wherever at your home, it means that you are rich and wealthy. Also, this portrait could also mean that it is for decor use at a home, and not for funeral purposes. Many couple paintings have been at homes for centuries, so I can't see how this would be at a funeral.  Become scholars and research and interpret symbols in this painting. Then, in your opinion, is it a marriage or a funeral? Why? Support your opinion...

POST #7– READING, GRQ and Discussion– THEATER OF THE PEOPLE

Begin this post with differences between operas and musicals Many people feel that the greatest opera ever created is Phantom of the Opera However, others feel that it is not an opera. 2 Find pros and cons and state your opinion and why. Is Phantom an opera or a musical? Is it the greatest opera ever created? Why? Many people credit the musical as an "Opera", but in reality it is not the case, However, it can be in a way. This is because 1: The performance DOES have some sections where it can be classified as an opera, and 2: it has a scenery that can change backgrounds like opera, but the problem is that there is dialogue while opera has little to none and opera values beautiful singing voices while musicals often use “character voices.” After listing the pros and cons, I can see why some people think that Phantom of the Opera can be considered as an opera with some opera parts, but in my personal opinion, it is NOT an opera because for something to qualify as an opera, it ...

POST #6 – LECTURE BAROQUE THEATRE – MODERN OPERA

Before the baroque theatre, there was baroque architecture. Famous architect Michelangelo designed many famous structures such as St Peter's Square, and the Basilica dome. Later on, the Gothic architecture era was later transformed into a more ornate style called Baroque. At that time, protestant architecture was simple, but baroque had music, architecture and art to offer. Baroque architecture was meant to celebrate the wealth and power of the Catholic church. The style began at the start of the 16th century in Rome, then spread rapidly to France, northern Italy, Spain and Portugal, then to Austria, southern Germany and Russia, Later being named rocaille or Rococo, which appeared in France and Central Europe until the mid to late 18th century. Later on, Baroque theatre was introduced, and many theatres became stuck with the style, like the Cesky Krumlov theatre, being the first with an orchestra pit. And moving even further, baroque opera was born from baroque composers around 16...

Blog post #5 - Reading - GRC - discussion - the art of indigenous Americans art history: A century of exhibitions

READING: When it comes to the first world war, the US claimed it's artistic independence was by celebrating its own native art, which at the time, it was proclaimed as Native American artwork. Many assertions of "Indian" artwork was basically considered American at that period and because of that, many exhibitions started to form and in December of 1931, a new exhibition was formed as "The Exposition of Indian Tribal Arts". Later on, the term "multiculturalism" was introduced in the 1980s, to appreciate more the cultural diversity of artwork made by many people with a different culture, mainly mentioning African-Americans. Between 1983 and 1984, New York held small exhibits of American Indian art, then in the late 80's and early 90's, more exhibits opened, but very few had Native art objects for people to see. In the 21st century, it has gotten more attention, as in 2015, more exhibits presented the artwork directed towards Native American hist...

Blog post #4 - Lecture Native American - Gothic Architecture

Gothic Architecture originates from Native Americans, as they started forming states by 2000 B.C.; then they formed storytelling, which is an early example of performance. Although very distinct, their religious beliefs and practices bore striking resemblances to Catholic and Protestant teachings they had a story of creation as Genesis, they venerated one creator – as God, and they even had a dreaded malicious subordinate deity that closely resembled our Lucifer, and they also looked forward to a soul’s immortality and a superior afterlife, much better than the here and now. Many animals and humans were connected to "guardian angels", and the practice kept getting bigger so they ended up having to build shrines to worship and praise. One of the prime examples of Gothic architecture is the Hagia Sophia in Turkey, which is notorious for Gothic architecture. Gothic architecture became more popular in the 12th century, until the 16th century. The goal for these types of cathedral...
