POST #9 – READING GRQ DISCUSSION – RENAISSANCE AND MODERN ART

Discussion Q

After looking at the painting again and giving more time to look at some of the items in the background, I feel like it should be classified as a marriage. This is because if it were to be in a funeral, the two would have a very different style of dress or clothes and it would set in a different place, because in the painting, it looks like they are at their house with elegant decor and elegant clothing. Another reason on why this can't be classified as a funeral is because in the 13th century, mostly in Europe, if you had oranges in the windows or on wherever at your home, it means that you are rich and wealthy. Also, this portrait could also mean that it is for decor use at a home, and not for funeral purposes. Many couple paintings have been at homes for centuries, so I can't see how this would be at a funeral.

Become scholars and research and interpret symbols in this painting. Then, in your opinion, is it a marriage or a funeral? Why? Support your opinion with reliable data.:
