POST #14 – LECTURE – DADA - SCULPTURE AND RELATED MOVEMENTS
As art continued to evolve and as artists wanted to continue trying new things that could expand their creativity, futurism came into play in the early 1900s. It was all about ideas of what would the future hold for many people with things like dynamism, movement, speed, technology, youth, violence, and change. This was also the beginning of inventors coming up with many ideas of moving cameras to make an actual moving art piece. While chronophotography might evolve the way we take pictures, it took the whole meaning to use it on a different level, creating dynamism. It mainly studied of how things can be drawn in motion, such as animals. One was painted as a dog by Italian artist Giacomo Balla. Music was another important detail as it became more and more modern. Sound effects were being used as an experiment if they could incorporate with such moving films being developed by the day. Art became so advanced and so detailed that it was later used to represent movement of light and energy. The Russians were able to pull this off by calling it "Rayonism." It broke down the boundaries between art and life as well as making it a "fourth-dimension" for the human eye. Then things started to get heated when it came to art and thus, one of the most controversial pieces of art was ever created, called the "Black Square" by Maleviche. The painting has raised a lot of questions on what was its purpose, and what was the idea to make a painting that nobody could understand? The painting was for you to think about what could be inside that painting that would consider art, and in other words, it pretty much means that anything that makes it into the space can be a work of art. Constructivism also was introduced as making art with shapes became popular. It was created by Vladimir Tatlin, who was part of the futurist movement. Sure, he became inspired by Picassos art in 1915, but Tatlin started brainstorming on how they would take form as well as making an abstract, as well as geometric forms and modest materials. It was mostly used as an attack on art too. in 1919, an influential art school opened and is considered to reimagine the material world to reflect the unity of all the arts, called the Bauhaus. It also designed some of the most unusual art in the 20th century. It later closed in 1933. Dadaism is another art element that was created and intended to be humorous, and it became limitless, and it proved that art didn't have to be perfect, as Marcel Duchamp claimed. Postmodernism was against modernism and broke rules about the art style. It also had no boundaries, and artists had a ton of freedom to work on collages, color, and different paintings using different art styles in one, and one style isn't necessarily required. Andy Warhol is mainly famous for having a reputation on postmodernism as his art style.
