POST 15 - COLLAGE AND CHANCES

 When it comes to chance while making art, it can be anything random and it can be something that makes sense or not. Chances are, no pun intended, that it wouldn't have a meaning since chance art is randomized and can be a gamble on what you place on the canvas. For March 27th, we had to make a chance piece by doing a collage. It was pretty interesting seeing all the possibilities we could do when it comes to putting paper randomly and it actually can turn out as a great art piece. Overall, I learned a lot that chance can be classified as art and while it may not have any meaning to it, think about how anything random can also be impressive.

What do you think? Is “The Fountain” art? Why?

The art piece mainly looks like it is meaningless because it is basically just a urinal lying down, but there has to be another meaning behind the art piece, as it makes you think. It might mean that it can represent a chair but in a weird way. It can be explained in another way that it is classified as "retinal art", which is art doesn't have to be thinkable or understandable, but just for you to look at for a couple of seconds to confuse you. I believe it is both retinal and can make you think because it makes you think what was the purpose of this and what was the general idea? Was it to impress others? Or was it to confuse the audience and spark debates? Since this piece has been rejected so many times by people who claim anything can be art, it has an interesting background that can raise many questions on whether a urinal can be considered art.
