BLOG POST #10 – LECTURE – INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

The industrial was a big step ahead when it came to producing needs for the people, such as food, industrial blocks, and everyday items. The Industrial Revolution transformed economies that had been based on agriculture and handicrafts into economies based on large-scale industry and mechanized manufacturing as well as transportation. This rapidly changed between the 18th and 19th century. During the Renaissance, before the 19th century, artists were most often commissioned to make artwork by wealthy patrons or institutions like the church. However, artists started experimenting on what they could do on their own spare time instead of being commissioned to paint someone else. This can be concluded into a world of surrealism. Then, they started to be expressive with color and be more expandable on landscaping too. Later on, photography was made much easier as in 1839, the technology evolved. back then, artists had to paint things NOT captured by the camera. Then, new forms of expression in art was formed as to form a break in the bast, called Modernism. Artists can now experiment with new media, techniques and imagery, choose what they want to paint, not commissioned, paint modern industrial society, not the past, and begin painting from the subconscious. As art was evolving, Impressionism was introduced, which applied each hue separately and the hues would visually combine in the human eye giving the sensation of flickering light and vibrant atmosphere. Many other new styles of art were introduced, such as Cubism, famously recognized as Picasso's art style, Symbolism, which was a French literary movement from the 1880s, Fauvism, which had 3 things that artists would prefer when using this style... 1: They did not want to mimic nature or re-create the impression of light as the Impressionists had, but to create all-original styles. 2: They wanted to use whatever colors were necessary to express an emotion or feeling. Colors are chosen by the artist. 3: They felt art should come from within. A new connection between artists and their artwork was being created. Abstract art was also super important as it can portray messages or create feelings that the audience can question and/or create a discussion on what the painting means and its purpose as well.
